A dry monsoon forest, lies on the boundary of wet and dry zone which provide habitat for thousands of wild animals, elephants, birds, reptiles as well as the different species of plants while protecting the catchment area of Udawalawe Reservoir. Also, an elephant orphanage located within the national park to provide shelter and food for orphaned baby elephants and disabled adult elephants.
